sorenson law welcomes intern

May 24, 2011: Grant Erickson, a third year law student from Marquette University Law School, has joined Sorenson Law Office as a summer intern.  Grant, who is originally from Greenfield, WI, first came to Ripon to attend Ripon College, where he graduated in 2009 (summa cum laude) with degrees in Business Administration and Economics.  Having now completed two years of law school, Grant is looking forward to gaining some real-world experience in the areas of business and real estate law.  When not studying or working, Grant enjoys training for triathlons and reading.  He is also engaged to be married to his fiancé, Carissa Turk in the summer of 2012.  Sorenson Law Office is excited to add Grant to the team for the summer! 

Attorney Moniz joins united way board

May 19, 2011: Attorney Moniz has joined the Ripon Area United Way Board of Directors. The Ripon Area United Way is committed to improving lives by mobilizing community resources and partnerships to create sustained health and human services improvements in Ripon and the surrounding communities. Attorney Moniz is excited to help further these objectives and is looking forward to working with a number of great people and organizations throughout the community.

pier registration deadline

March 21, 2011: Waterfront property owners with larger piers must register their piers with the DNR by April 1, 2011 to ensure their piers will be "grandfathered" from new size limits adopted by the State of Wisconsin in 2004. Generally, a pier will need to be registered if it (a) is wider than 6 ft, but less than 8 ft in width, (b) has a platform at the end of the pier that has a surface area of less than 300 ft (w/ a max. width of 10 feet) and/or (c) more than 2 boat slips for the first 50 feet of shoreline frontage and 1 boat slip for each additional 50 feet of shoreline frontage.

To register a pier, a waterfront property owner must complete and mail a registration form to the DNR. To obtain a copy of the registration form and to find out more information about which piers need to be registered, please visit the DNR's website at:

March 15, 2011: Attorney Moniz and his wife, Nicole, are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Jack Thomas Moniz. Weighing in at 8lbs 13oz, Jack was born in the early morning on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, which happened to be his exact due date.

Congratulations to Tom and Nicole and welcome baby Jack!

February 10, 2011: Attorney Sorenson will be attending the American Bar Association Midyear Meeting in Atlanta from February 10-14. With high-profile speakers, essential legal programs and insightful debate on critical law and public policy issues, the ABA Midyear Meeting is the nation's premier gathering of legal professionals. judicial forum tonight

February 9, 2011: Candidates for Green Lake County Judge will answer audience questions tonight at a public forum at Green Lake High School from 7:30-8:30PM. The event was originally scheduled for last week, but was postponed due to the snow storm. Tonight's forum will now follow the Green Lake school board forum which takes place from 6:30-7:30PM. A brief meet and greet with refreshments will follow the event.

CANdidates for judge to speak at public forum

January 28, 2011: Just 13 days before the primary, the 3 candidates vying for the Green Lake County Circuit Court judge seat have agreed to participate in a public candidate forum at 6:30PM, Wednesday, February 2, at the Berlin Public High School, 222 Memorial Drive, Berlin, WI.

Jon R. Wilsnack of Markesan, John B. Selsing of Berlin, and Mark T. Slate of Markesan will address the community and answer questions from the audience about their respective experience, qualifications, and plans for change.

The League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area, a nonpartisan political organization dedicated to informed and active participation in government, will provide the moderator for this event, cosponsored by the Green Lake/Ripon Area Bar Association. 

IRS ANNOUNCES TAX FILING DELAYS FOR 2011

January 17, 2011: According to the IRS, some taxpayers will have to wait until mid to late February to file their taxes due to the recent tax law changes. The following groups are affected: (1) taxpayers itemizing deductions on Form 1040 Schedule A; (2) taxpayers claiming a higher education tuition and fees deduction; and (3) educators claiming the educator expense deduction.

The IRS also announced that the filing deadline for all taxpayers has been extended to April 18, 2011 due to the Emancipation Day holiday being observed in the District of Columbia on April 15, 2011.
